Economics

All Souls has a distinguished tradition in economic research and policymaking, as well as a thriving current Fellowship. The Drummond Professorship of Political Economy has been associated with the College since the late 19th century; Francis Edgeworth is a previous holder, as are three winners of the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economics - Sir John Hicks, Amartya Sen, and Joseph Stiglitz. Vincent Crawford will take up the professorship in January 2010 and Paul Beaudry takes up a newly established chair in economics in July 2009.  Other Quondam Fellows include Ian Little, Michael Lipton, Paul Seabright, and Tim Besley.

The College also supports research in economic and social history, through the Chichele Professorship in Economic History, a University Readership and a University Lectureship. Former Fellows in the subject include G.D.H. Cole, Charles Feinstein, Sir John Habakkuk, and Peter Mathias.
